At Home Ipod Touch Water Damage Repair

By Christopher I. Chandler

Ipods are everywhere these days and used for listening to music on the go, taking pictures and watching videos. The players can cost a pretty penny to have replaced should anything happen to them and most types of damage are not covered under the manufacturers warranty. Should your device come into contact with water of any kind, trying to fixing it yourself can save a lot of money. Here are a few iPod Touch water damage repair tips that can be tried to breathe life back into a damaged device.

Keeping the devices power off is very important. Should the item be turned back on before it has a chance to completely dry out, the parts inside can be permanently damaged. Looking into the headphone jack and determining if the ring inside is red or pink will tell you if there is water damage for sure.

Should the device have a SIM card; that needs to be taken out next. If a removal tool isn't handy; the tip of a paper clip works just the same to get the card out. Gently dry off the card with a lint free rag or cloth to remove any unwanted fluid.

After performing that step you will want to move on to the inside of the device. In order to get the fluid out of the inside a hair dryer should be used on low heat or cold air. Be cautious to keep the heat at a low temperature so you don't damage the parts inside. Blowing air into the open ports on the phone at either end for around ten minutes and then switching should do the job.

For the last portion of the repair, a small sandwich bag and white rice is needed. The bag should be filled with the rice and then the device should be placed inside for at least three days. After those three days are up, take out the unit to check the moisture levels. If there is still moisture present repeating the steps for another few days is recommended.

When your comfort level is high enough, take the unit out and give it a few light shakes to make sure that all the condensation has come out of the unit. If it is dry you can move on in the process.

Once you feel comfortable with turning the player back on, you will want to check to make sure everything is working like it should. The only thing left to do is re-insert the SIM card and start listening to all your tunes.
