For one to know how to play jazz piano, you should understand all its basics in terms of how it used to be like in the beginning and how it has developed with time. You need to understand the way the scales have been used both in the early and the new genre of this music. Thus learning the basic stuff will go along way into helping you gain the necessary skills.

Be a good listener and value the music you hear as listening is crucial if you really want to know the whole thing. There are various recordings that have been done and you need to find both old and new ones. Listen them out and note how its being done. Afterwards you can then try to experiment with the same.

In order for you to be able to identify the different sounds, make a point of learning more about all the twelve major sounding scales. In addition, read music and make a habit of experimenting them out. For you to even gain more, consider getting a songbook from experts in this genre of music.

Remember much as the scales appear to look alike, they are different in their own ways. As for you, make a point of being able to distinguish them well so that you can perfect your act even more. As you learn more, take out your songbook and try playing the various scales until you get it right.

Remember knowledge without practice is of no use, thus much as you have mastered all the scales, ensure to put them into practice as this will eventually make you an excellent pianist in this genre of music.
